Catapult Dance Choreographic Hub

Catapult Dance Choreographic Hub, Newcastle is a professional contemporary dance and multi-arts organisation, that leads, cultivates and champions mid-career professional contemporary dance practitioners, regional multi-disciplinary artists, emerging artists, young people and the community.

Catapult empowers artists to lead and experiment in their practice, enabling high quality, pioneering dance for diverse contexts regionally, nationally and internationally. Catapult curates professional performances, residencies, international/regional collaborations, diverse youth and community outreach programs.

The programs are multipronged, highlighting Newcastle’s artistic identity, as an incubator and producer of the highest quality professional arts practice; advocating choreographic development, collaboration across disciplines, and building new communities for contemporary dance practice.


The Creator Incubator

The Creator Incubator is a lively creative hub that houses 35 resident artists, designers, makers, thinkers.  We also have The Incubator Gallery. A contemporary art space showcasing the residents and available to hire for exhibitions by emerging and established contemporary artists. A creative community where you can find a diverse group of artists, designers, makers, thinkers. 

The Creator Incubator also has an accessible workshop/event space for temporary hire to hold events/workshops/classes. Come by for a visit and experience this amazing creative destination. Visit the artists' studios, talk to the artists and buy directly.


Newcastle Writers Festival

The Newcastle Writers Festival is one of the largest regional literary festivals in Australia. It is an annual event that champions writing and ideas and connects people and stories across the Hunter region and beyond.

The Newcastle Writers Festival is one of the largest regional literary festivals in Australia. The festival is an inclusive annual event that champions writing and ideas, and connects people and stories across the Hunter region and beyond. 

The program includes masterclasses, readings, book launches, panel discussions and one-on-one interviews with Australia’s leading writers. The ninth festival will be held in September 2021. Previous guests have included Tim Flannery, Helen Garner, Stan Grant, Matthew Reilly, Michael Robotham, Gillian Triggs and Charlotte Wood


Hubber hubber productions

Hubber Hubber Productions is a Freelance Film and Television Production facility based in Newcastle, NSW, established by Annette Hubber.

Annette supports social impact work and enjoys running educational film programs.  She has a post-graduate diploma in Producing from the Australian Film and Television Radio School.

Annette’s breadth of experience was born from 17 years as a TV Producer including appointments as Head of Television at several multi-national advertising agencies in Melbourne before moving into a production company.

After moving to the Hunter region, she spent the next 14 years managing Screen Hunter (the regional film commission). It was during this period that Annette successfully launched and grew the region’s Real Film Festival, that not only developed and promoted the local industry but ignited her passion for telling true stories that create social change.


The Lock-Up

Located in one of Newcastle’s most significant heritage buildings, The Lock-Up is an award winning independent multidisciplinary contemporary arts space and inner-city creative hub. Through curated artistic and public programs, The Lock-Up aims to stimulate and challenge audiences and to promote diverse current cross-platform and experimental practices of local, national and international artists. The program includes exhibitions, events, site-specific installation and performances, residencies, creative talks, workshops and a variety of activities designed to engage the arts community and the public and to encourage the sharing of ideas and creative vision.

The Lock-Up is an initiative of the Newcastle Historic Reserve Land Manager, a NSW Crown Lands Reserve entrusted with the care and management of a block of three significant heritage-listed buildings in the Newcastle East precinct on behalf of NSW Crown Lands.

TiNA (formerly Octapod) is a not-for-profit arts organisation with a 25-year history of supporting experimental and emerging artists in the Hunter region of New South Wales. Our vision is to help every creative take off or take a risk. Our mission is to provide professional services, support and investment for experimental and emerging artists and arts workers across disciplines in the Hunter region so they can make art and learn the business as they grow.

We do our work for experimental, emerging and independent artists and arts workers including art academics, students, researchers, critics, writers and thinkers in the Hunter – Newcastle, Port Stephens, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and Cessnock.

Our goal is to position the Hunter as the go-to region to experience experimental art in Australia.
